Harvey Relief Update

Supporting Our Community

As part of its ongoing Hurricane Harvey relief assistance, Medical Bridges in collaboration with Brother's Brother Foundation (Pittsburgh) donated $455,000 of medical supplies to The Salvation Army, The Houston Food Bank, and the Christ Evangelical Presbyterian Church.

Additionally, 400 hardhats, 1,200 respiratory masks, and 432 safety glasses were donated to the Houston Community ToolBank.

The Houston Community ToolBank is a nonprofit tool lending program serving other nonprofits (and disaster response groups) by putting high-quality tools in the hands of thousands of volunteers who are leading recovery efforts.

Medical Supplies for Hurricane Harvey ReliefMedical Bridges has donated $60,000 in medical supplies to the Ibn Sina Foundation, which was established in 2001 to serve low-income and indigent families who have no access to health care.

The Ibn Sina Foundation serves patients at 10 locations throughout Greater Houston. It anticipates serving more than 60,000 patients this year. As part of its Harvey-related assistance, the foundation held a free Children's Clinic.

Brothers Brother Foundation (BBF) offered assistance to Medical Bridges once it was apparent that Houston would be significantly affected by Hurricane Harvey. Collaborating with another nonprofit, Gleaning for the World, BBF sent a truckload of specifically requested supplies to Medical Bridges to supplement our inventory. This enabled us to continue providing essential supplies to locations throughout Houston.

Jeremiah JudkinsAugust 28, 2017— As Houston's George R. Brown Convention Center (GRB) was setting up a disaster response medical clinic, Medical Bridges Director of Operations, Jeremiah Judkins, magaged to make three supply delivery runs before deteriorating road conditions made it impossible to continue. On August 31, the Disaster Medical Assistance Team (DMAT) was opperational at the shelter, and contacted Medical Bridges requesting urgently-needed diabetes supplies. Jeremiah was able to deliver diabetic monitoring kits, insulin syringes, and medical products ranging from bandages and gauze to nebulizers and wheelchairs.

“They were so thankful,” Jeremiah said. “I have never seen a recepient as excited and as grateful as they were. Jeremiah Judkins with Disaster Assistance Medical TeamWe were able to fill a huge need for them.”

DMAT consists of professional and para-professional medical personnel who provide medical care during a disasters as part of the National Disaster Medical System, a federally coordinated healthcare system and partnership of the Departments of Health and Human Services, Homeland Security, Defense, and The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, according to HHS.gov.
