News from MOAS (Migrant Offshore Aid Station)
October 4, 2014

The MOAS team of professional rescuers, seafarers, paramedics, and humanitarians began operating at the end of August on board the Phoenix I. To date, they have assisted in the rescue of 2,200 migrants leaving Libyan shores attempting to reach a safe haven.

On October 1st, MOAS was directed by Italian authorities to a dinghy carrying 92 migrants, including a two-year-old girl. Moreover on October 4th, the crew rescued another 196 migrants from two rubber dinghies in the Mediterranean Sea.

Many of the migrants were dehydrated and others were suffering from severe burns because their clothing was soaked with fuel. MOAS disembarked the migrants in Italy under the direction of Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre.

Medical Bridges provided the medical supplies used during these rescues.

Stay tuned for more updates from our friends at MOAS.
